Journalism during #MeToo – editorial insights and ethical considerations

What have we learned about media’s coverage so far? How should media – an important catalyst in the social media driven feminist movement – balance their ethical and journalistic obligations?

The global echo of the #MeToo campaign that began in 2017 is far from silent. In 2020, new waves of accusations of sexual harassment and gender-based violence surged in the media with profound resonance across countries in North Africa and most recently in Denmark.

In this webinar, IMS has invited a panel of media professionals and academics to discuss important questions such as: what we have learned about media’s coverage so far? How should media – an important catalyst in the social media driven feminist movement – balance their ethical and journalistic obligations?

The webinar aims to generate diverse international insights on the convergence of the #MeToo movement with journalism as well as inspire practical guidance for future editorial decisions and development of editorial approaches. It is part of the International 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence Campaign 2020.
